Electric Vehicles: Charging Stations Paid for by US Taxpayers Planned.

I always thought that the charging would be done at home overnight for the next trip. 

I suppose there will be those who will have a dead battery (like run out of gas). 


Can you picture someone stranded on the street, will have to buy a battery if there is no station around. You can't buy a can of electricity and pour into the vehicle. I see a big problem here.

President Bush wanted to allow the contributors to set aside into their own private accounts. If that had started, the potential retirees would have a greater reserve for retirement.

In past years, the Social Security fund received more taxpayer dollars than it needed to pay benefits, and the surplus money was put into trust funds. But the federal government has borrowed from these funds to pay for other projects, leaving IOUs that the government will soon have to begin paying back out of other revenue.

  As a retired school teacher, I must state that it is a time to change. In my time, I will tell you that the NEA did nothing for me, except to take my money and use it for lobbiests in Washington. I was devoted to teaching the kids...salary was secondary....I was on the job daily and did everything in my power to create positive successes for my students.....I am against teachers who leave the classroom for political purposes.....tenure should be abolished. I had to go through tenure procedures three times in my career....a teacher should stand on merit....simply good teaching procedures. Fake sick excuses to me are outrageous. A lack of morality. I taught for one part of my career in a one room school house out in the sticks...kinder-8th grade.....it was a great experience....everybody helping everybody.....parents, kids, and teacher making things better, and learning with fun and good times. Go back to your classrooms and care for your children assigned to you. I will state that through the years, I always have lived within my means...I am free from debt and am able to pay my monthly bills on time. I lived low and enjoyed my job and never expected anyone to pay my way.Get rid of big union in public school service. Stand on true merit and talent and give to society.Yes, I do have a pension....it is not much, but if I were to lose some of it, I most possibly could handle it. 67 year old teacher...retired.PS. Those missing reps need to come back and do their jobs.Another lack of basic morality!

  Since I don't assume all of you here are economists like myself, allow me to help:
  
  Problem: Record Deficits
  
  How We Got Here:
  (1) The Fiscal Policies undertaken immediately after 9/11
  (2) The Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
  (3) The Financial Crisis of 2008
  (4) George Bush's $700B TARP Bailout
  (5) Obama's $800B Stimulus Package
  (6) Entitlement Spending on Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare
  
  (1) The fiscal policies undertaken by the Bush Administration directly affected our economic future into 2011. The Bush Administration cut taxes and the Fed reduced interest rates to virtually 0.00% (in an attempt to spur the economy after the events of 9/11). The Bush Administration deregulated financial markets and institutions, and this allowed for the creation complex derivatives, credit default swaps, and allowed for bad housing loans and underwriting practices.
  (2) Obviously, we've spent around $1.5T on these wars. That's a waste of tax dollars/government spending.
  (3) Caused by the Bush Administration's fiscal policies and the deregulation of financial institutions/loose credit policies.
  (4) Huge government spending.
  (5) Huge government spending.
  (6) Huge government spending.
  
  What is not a problem?
  "Pork" or "earmark" spending accounts for approximately 12% of tax dollars spent. Reducing spending here will be marginal at best in addressing the true issues of our deficit.
  
  What are the solutions?
  (1) Increase taxes, reduce government spending.
  (2) Increase taxes, keep government spending ceteris paribus.
  (3) Decrease taxes, reduce government spending by a larger percentage.
  
  What is not a solution?
  (1) Decrease taxes, increase government spending.
  
  What has the Obama Administration done?
  (1) Ended combat operations in Iraq (an attempt to reduce government spending).
  (2) A Health Care Overhaul (an attempt to address the entitlement spending on Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare).
  (3) Financial regulations (to prevent future financial failures like the one in 2008 so more bailouts aren't necessary -- see "too big to fail").
  (4) Attempted to let expire the Bush tax cuts. Even expiring them for the richest 2% of Americans would have neted us $700B in tax revenue. That would have really helped address our problems.
  
  We must realize we have a HUGE deficit. We may have to pay a few extra dollars to really solve our problems.

  The problem is that our country has been lulled to sleep over decades of hearing that government workers are dedicated and low paid public servants who trade good pay for security. And every time a union pay debate came up, it seemed like only cops and fire fighters and teachers were mentioned. No one stopped to think that most government workers are actually bureaucratic charmers like those we see at the DMV and other government offices -- and not "heroic teachers" or crime fighters.
  
  
  But as long as the private sector was humming along, there was no reason for reality to permeate that myth in most peoples' minds. But the reality is that government workers long ago passed private sector workers in pay and benefits, and now the compensation is more like 150% or even double, factoring in all the benefits, including more vacation days than private sector workers enjoy. And of course, the inestimable value of job security remains intact and strengthened -- while all of us in the private sector deal daily with the risk-reward constraints of reality that are only getting riskier.
  
  
  And along the way -- with a public school teacher-educated population that understands virtually nothing about economics -- the sheer idiocy of the concept of government unions escaped almost everybody. It's almost as if the union teachers were lying to their students about economics on purpose.
  
  
  Consider: Unions exist primarily for the function of collective bargaining, where the union bosses will negotiate on behalf of all the workers with the management of a company over pay and benefits and other conditions. This built-in adversarial relationship along with the realities of a limited resource -- known as operating revenues -- do a pretty good job for the most part of keeping contracts in line.
  
  
  The union bosses represent the workers. Management represents everybody else, including the stockholders, vendors, customers and potential customers of the company. In other words, management represents everyone whose interests are served by keeping payroll costs down.
  
  
  In the case of a government workforce, those whose interests are served by keeping costs down would include all who pay taxes and fees to said government. In other words, the universe of folks represented by management is far larger than that represented by the union. This inherent tension is the invisible hand of reality that keeps collective bargaining in line.
  
  
  However, public sector "collective bargaining" is a bad joke, given that there are only chairs on one side of the bargaining table. The bigger universe of interested parties have zero representation in the process. There is no natural force working to keep costs in line.
  
  
  Moreover, quite often the very politicians who are "negotiating" with the public unions are politicians who have been financed by those same unions. At least Bernie Madoff ripped off his clients with some panache. No such style is even required in a public sector union negotiation when the folks in charge are bought and paid for Democrats.
  
  
  Under any circumstances and in any economy, it is simply a matter of time before these costs reach a tipping point. We are at that time. There is simply no more money to give to these public sector unions -- period.
  
  
  And that is why we are seeing what we are seeing in Madison this week and it is why we have seen the emergence of Chris Christie as a national phenomenon. And I welcome it. Things are finally so bad -- that they are good. And by good, I mean that folks now cannot help but pay attention to the issue of public sector unions.
  
  
  I submit that the very existence of these unions has only been allowed to happen because it's the kind of issue an electorate is never forced to confront -- until they are forced to confront it. And now they are. There is, as Charles Krauthammer said, a bit of an earthquake in the country. People are sensing that the nation is spinning off a cliff.
  
  
  And of course it is, and public sector unions are one huge reason why. This conclusion is inescapable. And when you understand that, you understand that public sector unions cannot be allowed to exist. If they are, we will never turn back from the cliff.

Look what happened in Toronto over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2006. Canadian law allows airline screeners to unionize, and at that time, the Toronto airport union was unhappy with how the talks were going. So they decided to send a little message to government: They started hand-inspecting every single piece of luggage. As planned, of course, this caused huge backups, and many fliers missed their flights.
Finally, to help move people along, managers allowed 250,000 people to board their flights without being screened. Fortunately, no terrorist incident took place. But it was pure luck that it didn’t.

Looks like the only way to stop them, is to defund the department till we stop the movement.
