U.S. Government Can Create Government Jobs.

It has created the present job situation, which has caused millions to be out of work.

Don Surber in this column does the arithmetic for us.   $38,6 billion loan to create 65,000 jobs, reads impressive. Divide $38.6 billion by 65,000 and it is $600,000 cost for each job.

An excerpt from the column:
Why is the federal government even doing this? The Constitution did not set up a Soviet-style government with a centrally planned economy where it assigns jobs to people. The government is supposed to run the posts, protect the coasts and arbitrate arguments between the states and the states and foreign nations. Job creation is not the government’s job — and with good reason: The federal government sucks at jobs creation.
Look at Amtrak. For 40 years the federal government has had a monopoly on passenger rail service. For 40 years the federal government has lost money on this monopoly — to the tune of $1 billion a year.
So there you have it, your government at work for you.
