There have been 16 homicides in the district, up from eight all of last year, according to police statistics.
The crime at Lorena's Grocery, in which the owner, his wife and sister-in-law were fatally shot, was one of three homicides last week alone in the 16th District.

The criminals have the guns, but the victims can use their pepper spray.
